Handmade Fordite necklace
Unique Fordite pendant set in sterling silver open back step bezel. The natural grooves in the front create interesting shapes and layers for a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
Fordite dates back to the 1920's when, during car production, layers upon layers of paint would build up in the bays from the painting stage. Eventually, the paint layers needed to be removed. Someone discovered that the dried up paint layers could be cut and polished just like gemstones, resulting in unique colors and patterns, creating stunning one-of-a-kind pieces.
Most of the Fordite used for jewelry today is from the 60's to late 70's since the 1980's is when car manufacturers moved away from the hand spray painting method and adopted newer, modern methods.
Comes with an 22" 2mm leather cord necklace.
